CONGRESSMAN HIGGINS INVITES LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO SUBMIT ARTWORK FOR THE CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

Statement

Date: April 5, 2022

Congressman Brian Higgins is inviting high school students living in the 26th Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece from each Congressional district is sent to Washington, D.C. and displayed in the Capitol Building.

"In the past we've been inspired by the incredible creativity of talented young artists here in Western New York," said Higgins. "We encourage students to share their work again this year."

This year, there is no need to hand deliver artwork. All submissions will be accepted virtually and featured in an online gallery. Simply, upload artwork through the following link: bit.ly/NY26Art and complete the student release form. The deadline for submission is April 20, 2022.

Western New York themed artwork is encouraged but all original artwork that meet the guidelines are welcome. Submissions will be posted in a virtual gallery on Congressman Higgins' website beginning April 27th with additional viewing opportunities through the Congressman's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. The public will have the opportunity vote for their favorite piece until May 4th.

Local leaders in the Western New York art community will select the winning piece to be sent to our Nation's Capital. The winning student and a guest will also receive complimentary Southwest Airline tickets to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony in June in Washington, D.C. with other winners from around the country. Additional prizes will be awarded for the first and second runner up as well as the top vote earner through the online gallery.
